Book Blogger Confessions -#20 Scary books!

Book Blogger Confessions is a meme that posts the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, where book bloggers "confess" and vent about topics that are unique to us. Feel free to share, vent and offer solutions. The question that is asked this week is....
"Do you like to read scary books? Why or why not? If so, what is the scariest book you ever read and why does it deserve that honor?"
I avoid them at all cost. I don't like being scared . I'm not a big fan of evil and horror but I like murder mysteries by Jo Nesbo or Jeremy Bates. Those books don't seem to bother me ...much, but even in the Mortal Instrument series, which I love, there are some scary parts.

Reading requires a certain amount of imagination so when something manages to infuse that fear in me, I can pretend it sorta just didn't happen yano? Unlike movies, where you can see those horrible images on screen. I DO NOT LIKE BEING SCARED in any way, shape or form, [so don't even think about it or I will punch you in the face.] You have been warned, when I get scared I get angry *shakes fist in the air*

For example: When the warlock, Magnus Bane was preparing to bring up a demon for the first time, I cringed. That shit scared me!! especially when I'm reading in bed at night all alone?! Certain parts can be scary like that but honestly? I've never read a scary novel. It's not my cup a tea.
"Bonus question! Just for fun – have you ever dressed as a literary character for Halloween? Brave enough to show a photo if you have one?"
No I have not.

Can love transcend even death?

The Fates made a mistake and Michael Talbot wasn't supposed to have survived the car accident that killed his two best friends. One side of his skull was pretty much smashed in, leaving him with an 'all-seeing-eye' but he survived and that needed to be fixed according to 'The Voice'. Michael can see things that are dark and unpleasant. He can see auras and was sort of psychic.

Nobody liked him after the accident and his mom treats him as if he were dead and invisible. Could they not see him? I have no idea.

Michael laments because his life is a living hell, better off dead, until he met Jandilynn Hollow. I agree with her mother in that I don't know what she saw in him but unlike her mother, I don't think Mike is a bad person or evil only I do think he died.

When Michael moves into a new house mysterious and strange things happen; like his fridge goes poltergeist on him, and someone is leaving messages on it in blood!!! and his Cat!!

“Michael Talbot yet lives, Mr. Black,” Simon Peter said to the dark entity before him. Mr. Black produced a large dark ledger from his robes. He spent a moment shifting through the voluminous pages. “Ah, here it is. That is impossible. I collected him on October 11th at 3: 33 am. I can most assuredly tell you he is where he should be.” Simon Peter swept his arm, a vision of a small ranch home came into view, more importantly the lone figure sitting on the couch reading the Bible. *** Mike looked around when he felt he was no longer alone. *** Simon Peter swept his arm back and the image was gone. “Fix it.” Mr. Black, his face expressionless, gave a small bow and left. Tufo, Mark (2012-08-30). The Spirit Clearing (Kindle Locations 697-707).Kindle Edition.

I wanted to die, Mike thought as he lay huddled in the dark, damaged lining of his mind. Tufo, Mark (2012-08-30). The Spirit Clearing (Kindle Locations 478-480). . Kindle Edition.

Every Family Has Its Demons

Director Tim Burton brings the cult classic series “Dark Shadows” to the big screen in a film featuring an all-star cast, led by Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter.

In the year 1750, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool England to start a new life in America, where they build a fishing empire in the coastal Maine town that comes to carry their name: Collinsport.

Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of falling in love with a beauty named Josette DuPres (Bella Heathcote) and breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green).
A witch in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death—turning him into a vampire, and then burying him…alive.

Nearly two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972, a stranger in an even stranger time. Returning to Collinwood Manor, he finds that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin, and the dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Family matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) is the one person Barnabas entrusts with the truth of his identity. But his rather odd and anachronistic behavior immediately raises the suspicions of the live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman As Barnabas sets out to restore his family name to its former glory, one thing stands in his way: Collinsport’s leading denizen, who goes by the name Angie…and who bears a striking resemblance to a very old acquaintance of Barnabas Collins.

Also residing in Collinwood Manor are Elizabeth’s ne’er-do-well brother, Roger Collins, (Jonny Lee Miller); her rebellious teenage daughter Carolyn Stoddard (ChloĆ« Grace Moretz); and Roger’s precocious 10-year-old son, David Collins (Gully McGrath). The longsuffering caretaker of Collinwood is Willie Loomis (Jackie Earle Haley), and new to the Collins’ employ is David’s nanny, Victoria Winters (Bella Heathcote), who is, mysteriously, the mirror image of Barnabas’ one true love, Josette.

A Note From Alice

She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever. Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.
Her father was right. The monsters are real….
To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

The only thing I liked about this book was the cover and her pretty dress. I have to be honest and it is the gist of how I feel and I should have stopped reading after A Note From Alice because the rest is pure torture. I don't understand the rave reviews , in fact I guess I must've missed the part when Alice sent every walking corpse back to their grave. Oh wait....that's right!? it was Cole who did that!... what a jerk, or maybe it was just faith? Whatever it was; just how does forcing spirit out of body work anyways? what the hell is that called?! wtf!? I don't believe zombies have spirits for one thing and reading this book was like scratching my eyeballs with sandpaper

Vampgirl♥ Fraterfest Event

I really love Vampires and Rhiannon Frater is a master storyteller. Her new release Pretty When She Kills [PWSK] is just a.m.a.z.i.n.g. What better way to celebrate the month of October then with some dark reads and things that go bump in the night? I have chosen these #freekindlebooks as part of my Fraterfest read-a-thon but I'm quite sure I won't be able to read them all in just 3 days but they will be on my to-be-read list for the whole month. All of these were free when I got them. Death weeps is free today only-Friday. I've already begun to read Rhiannon Fraters Blood and Love and Other Vampire Tales.

Jenny Plague-Bringer Cover Reveal & Giveaway

Expected Publication: 10/23/2012
Cover by PhatPuppy Art

Jenny has enjoyed a year of quiet seclusion, but her peace is about to be shattered by two new paranormals who are searching for her. Their intentions are unknown. The timing couldn’t be worse, because Jenny can’t use her pox without risking the life of the baby growing inside her…

A must read for Jenny Pox fans. From the author J.L Bryan comes the new and exciting coveted addition to the Paranormals series; #4 Jenny Plague-Bringer.

Since we are only revealing the books cover allow me to just say "not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined it"!

I love this series but with the joyous news of her being pregnant I cannot help but think it will mean more trouble for her. Well, bring it on! If my memory serves me correct at the end of Alexander Death, her and Seth are travelling incognito somewhere in Paris. I love the landscapes of Ancient history that J.R. Bryan paints. It is truly amazing to read!
