My Review: Blue Blooded Vamp (Sabina Kane #5)

Blue-Blooded Vamp (Sabina Kane, #5)Blue-Blooded Vamp by Jaye Wells
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Good morning, bitches. Who wants to read Ch. 1 of Blue-Blooded Vamp? http://t.co/2m9Tlcdm
— Giguhl (@Giguhl) May 10, 2012

Red Headed Assassin Sabina Kane is stripped of her magic powers and her immortality in her attempt to kill the Master of the Vampire race Master Mahan aka Cain. Wow. What a painful and sad year it has been for her. All 5 books occur in a period of 12 months and I have to say I'm extremely glad it's over. Phew . The author did a bang up job though and I thoroughly loved every minute of it.

It starts off right where Silver-Tongued Devil left off. Sabina and the mancy Adam Lazarus and her mischief demon cat Giguhl, follow a lead that will help them capture and kill Cain aka Master Mahan. Ironically the only man to come close to killing Cain is named Abel (not the biblical Abel however) and the only one who can help them find Abel is Erron Zorn. So they go back to New Orleans to talk to Erron Zorn who reluctantly goes with them to Italy. A bit Twilightish but I liked the change of atmosphere personally. Soon they find out who the identity of this mysterious Abel is and are shocked but I had a feeling and a hunch.

Anyway they find a nice hotel and their mission shapes up pretty quickly after talking with some Irish dude bartender Richard Green who puts them in touch with Abel.

When Asclepeus appears, again, he wants Sabina to fulfill her promise and kill some vampire chick as a favor to him. She's to kill Nix and find the gold vest . In normal circumstances it would hinder their mission but it turns out both tasks are related. So anyway lets just say Rome was an adventure with events culminating in Irkalla. The Bone Palace to be precise. This is where we get to meet Lilith and Asmodeus. What a fucking asshole Asmodeus is and Cain? ANNOYING but Lilith ? she seemed on the softer motherly side. Especially when it came to The Chosen...

There was a lot of Giguhl and how sweet was he to give some of his demon blood to Sabina when she needed it? We get to see all of Sabina's old friends and foes who had died back in Irkalla which is awesome. We also are rewarded with a few surprises Like the demon wedding of a lifetime!

Novella November: A Little Christmas Romance

A Little Christmas Romance

A Little Christmas Romance by H.M. Ward

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Hot New Adult novella just in time for the holidays! This is part of a collection of Christmas romance stories released on November 1, 2013. http://www.newadult12.com/

Goodreads Summary:

There’s no such thing as second chances, and Brooke would know. This Christmas will be spent alone and uncelebrated, same as the last. It doesn’t matter that she’s a disgruntled mall elf, standing next to a chimney-scented Santa with the most annoying co-worker ever. It doesn’t make Christmas more magical. It’s just another day to endure, and the holiday can’t pass fast enough. That is, until her old flame, Chris, spots her. After taking a picture with Brooke in her elf costume, things take an unexpected turn. Maybe getting through the night won’t be so difficult after all.

This was a bit too short for me to give it more than 3 stars however Chris and Brooke were old flames that only needed to be rekindled. There wasn't much sex involved but Brooke did light up his life in a big way. Is it just me or why is it that in contemporary romances it's always the girls fault for failing to act? sheesh. It pisses me off that the girl is always the negative factor when it comes to sex and romance with a hot guy. She had run away from everything including Chris when her mother died 4 years earlier. Chris spotted her at the mall decked out in an Elf costume around Santa's throne so he took the opportunity to get his picture taken with the only elf he ever wanted. Brooke didn't know how much he wanted her and gives him the cold shoulder once too many, until Christmas day when they went to visit his parents' house and his mom and brother revealed how it broke his heart when she left and he was miserable all the time. Of course she didn't know that..... yet she liked him too. I guess this was just a case of life getting in the way of fulfilling their wants and desires.

Review: Silver-Tongued Devil (Sabina Kane #4)

Silver-Tongued Devil (Sabina Kane, #4)

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads summary:

Now that the threat of war has passed, Sabina Kane is ready to focus on the future. Her relationship with Adam Lazarus is getting stronger and she's helping her sister, Maisie, overcome the trauma of her captivity in New Orleans. Even Giguhl is managing to stay out of trouble thanks to the arrival of Pussy Willow and his new roller derby team. But as much as Sabina wants to feel hopeful about the future, part of her doesn't trust that peace is possible. Her suspicions are confirmed when a string of sadistic murders threaten to stall treaty negotiations between the mages and the vampires. Sabina pitches in to find the killer, but her investigation soon leads her down dark paths that have her questioning everyone she thought she could trust. And the closer she gets to the killer, the more Sabina begins to suspect this is one foe she may not be able to kill.

I think Sabina misses her life as a vampire (assassin) now that she is back from New Orleans in New York living at Prytania Place surrounded by the ones who care for her. Maybe because killing was her job and she is out of work. She acts like vampire politics isn't any of her business but when two murders threaten to put a stop to the peace treaty, she wants to make sure that doesn't happen. So Orpheus and Tanith order Sabina and Adam to find the perpetrator along with Tanith's bodyguard Alexis who is also introduced to help in their investigations. She's a badass vampire herself also known as the Iron Maiden. Sabina to Alexis: "You want a challenge, tough chick? Go read a book." - page 304

I think this story was amazing. I liked everything about it; the humour, the drama, the suspense, the crime, the horror, the rock and roll, the sex romance and love parts too AND there was enough heartbreak between Sabina and Adam, Mac and Georgia, Pussy Willow and Giguhl, to last an eternity. I was happy to hear the band Necrospank 5000 were back playing their last gig in Club Vein, because the lead singer Erron Zorn , the Recreant plays an important role in both Green Eyed Demon and Silver Tongued Devil and I know we'll be seeing more of him in Blue Blooded Vamp when Sabina, Adam and Giguhl go to Rome.

Boy o boy what more can I say. This series has turned out to be one of my favorites and Silver Tongued Devil is the best book of the series so far what with only one more left to go I'm sure it will be just as amazing. There is so much to learn about Lilith and Cain that I'd never known about before AND the staff of Asclepius! the symbol of a snake wrapped around a staff known in modern medicine not to mention I'd never heard about Mages in any other books I've read.

2014 Audio Book Challenge

Jennifer @thebooknympho and the girls over at Hot listens are hosting the 2014 Audiobook Challenge and are inviting us to join the challenge.

Reading Challenge Details:

  • Runs January 1, 2014 – December 31, 2014. You can join at anytime.
  • The goal is to find a new love for audios or to outdo yourself by listening to more audios in 2014 than you did in 2013.
  • Books must be in audio format (CD, MP3, etc.)
  • ANY genres count.
  • Re-reads and crossovers from other reading challenges are allowed.
  • You do not have to be a book blogger to participate; you can track your progress on Goodreads, Shelfari, Facebook, LibraryThing, etc.
  • If you’re a blogger grab the button and do a quick post about the challenge to help spread the word. If you’re not a blogger you can help by posting on Facebook or Tweeting about the challenge.

Levels:

  • Newbie (I’ll give it a try) 1-5
  • Weekend Warrior (I’m getting the hang of this) 5-10
  • Stenographer (can listen while multi-tasking) 10-15
  • Socially Awkward (Don’t talk to me) 15-20
  • Binge Listener (Why read when someone can do it for you) 20-30
  • My Precious (I had my earbuds surgically implanted) 30+

As of 2013 I started listening to Audiobooks and recently got myself an iPod Shuffle. It's been a pleasure to listen to while I'm on the bus or taking a walk, once I figured out how to sync with iTunes. So I'm a bit technologically challenged when it comes to this stuff.

I use Audible and Overdrive primarily for all my Audiobooks.

The first thing you need to do for this challenge is decide which level you want to accomplish your goal at. It's similar to the 6 levels of Dantes Hell. lol j/k (I've never read the book) but having my earbuds surgically implanted is not going to happen! That's just gross :p

I could be on the safe side and listen to 1-5 audiobooks as a Newbie but that wouldn't be much of a challenge would it ? Because I've always been slow at comprehension I always feel I have to read along from a book but THAT is just way more expensive so even though I can borrow audiobooks from the library I think 15-20 is a good plan. That would be a Socially Awkward (Don't talk to me) level.

Here is what I plan on listening to...

  • Stephen Kings 11/22/63
  • Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
  • Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire .
  • Allegiant by Veronica Roth
  • Most of the Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost
  • Soul Screamers Volume 2 & 3

  • That's all for now but I'll keep adding to the list as I go .

My Review Green-Eyed Demon (Sabina Kane #3)

    Green-Eyed Demon (Sabina Kane, #3)

    Green-Eyed Demon by Jaye Wells

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

    Goodreads summary:
    Things to do:
    1. Rescue sister.
    2. Murder grandmother.
    3. Don't upset the voodoo priestess.
The clock is ticking for Sabina Kane. Her sister has been kidnapped by her grandmother, the Dark Races are on the brink of war, and a mysterious order is manipulating everyone behind the scenes.
Working on information provided by an unlikely ally, Sabina and her trusty sidekicks--a sexy mage named Adam Lazarus and Giguhl, a Mischief demon--head to New Orleans to begin the hunt for her sister. Once there, they must contend with belligerent werewolves, magic-wielding vampires and--perhaps most frightening of all--humans.
But as much as Sabina is focused on surviving the present, the past won't be ignored. Before she can save those she cares about most, she must save herself from the ghosts of her past.

I'd have to say Green-Eyed Demon was certainly eventful and Sabina and Adam kicked some serious vampire ass.
It starts off with a bang when Sabina and the gang try to kidnap one of the evil vampire sisters. Hoping to kidnap Persephone they manage to take Tanith instead, but she had her own agenda and ends up helping them by shooting her bodyguard. O well. Adam whisks them all away to the Seelie Court to meet up with their own council and the Fae Queen Maeve , leader of the Tuatha de Danan, somewhere in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. Maeve doesn't like Sabina for killing one of her entourage which leaves her and Giguhl out of the circle "standing in the antechamber like two assholes without invites to the party of the year" - quote from page 23

Their plan was to lead them to New Orleans where they believe Lavinia is keeping Maisie. Lavinia had recently become involved with some mysterious sect who call themselves The Caste of Nod so the bulk of the book consists of searching for clues. We already met their friends Zen and Brooks who were expecting Sabina, Adam and Giguhl to arrive in New Orleans needing a place to stay. Zenobia is a friend of Rhea's while Brooks is gay and a cross dresser. I didn't like that it took a whole book just to find Maisie and ultimately kill Lavinia, but I was satisfied with how it ended.

Desperate to find Maisie they resort to capturing Master Mahan's annoying white Owl, Stryx. Adam thought they could somehow someway get the bird to speak. haha 'NOT', instead they end up raising a dead corpse! When Zen the voodoo princess takes Sabina to a cemetery to perform a ritual on the bird, things go wrong and Sabina accidentally raises a dead corpse. Her Chthonic magic powers had amplified the necromancy spell! You can read all about that in Chapter 17. The zombie also eats Stryx lol.

One of my favorite quotes is when they'd brought the bird home they tried to restrain it from harming itself or them and Sabina tells Adam to...
"Put the fucking bird in the fridge already."

It was fun meeting two lesbian werewolves and a Mage outcast.

The Mage in Black Review (Sabina Kane #2)

The Mage in Black (Sabina Kane #2)
    by Jaye Wells

The sequel to Red-Headed Stepchild from USA Today Bestselling author Jaye Wells... Sabina Kane doesn't have the best track record when it comes to family. After all, her own grandmother, the leader of the vampire race, just tried to kill her. When she arrives in New York to meet the mage side of her family, the reunion takes the fun out of dysfunctional. On top of that, the Hekate Council wants to use her as a pawn in the brewing war against the vampires. Her mission will take her into the bowels of New York's Black Light district, entangles her in mage politics, and challenges her beliefs about the race she was raised to distrust. And Sabina thought vampires were bloodthirsty.
Now that Sabina Kane agrees to follow Adam to New York to meet her twin Sister Maisie, she also learns a white Owl named Stryx is following her.

There were many times she had to fight off an attacker and The Mage in Black was more of an action adventure except Adam no sooner gets back home when he has to go away again. To say Sabina wasn't thrilled about that is an understatement because he was the only one she felt she could trust and the deal was that Adam would train her to use her magic/mage skills. It was also a bit of a disappointment without Adam in the picture. He doesn't appear again until the last battle at the end of the book.

Anyway somebody is relentless to kill her having attempted more than 5 times but when Sabina Kane is found guilty of murdering one of the Fae Queen's emmissaries Hawthorne Banathsheh, which honestly was in self defense because he was going to kill her, the Hekate council Orpheus has her locked up in prison. Maisie breaks her out of prison and Sabina seeks protection and safety with her ex-lover Slade who is called The Shade by everyone else. Slade is a vampire who runs a business in the shady darker side of the streets of New York.

Sabina meets up with Slade after she is found poaching on The Lone Wolves turf one night. Vampires are not allowed to feed without paying some sort of blood tax and she gets into a fight with the werewolves. Boy it always seems like she gets into some kind of trouble everywhere she turns. In order to settle this dispute The Shade decides the only way to stave off bad relations between the Weres and Vampires in that city is for Sabina Kane and the alpha of the Lone Werewolves Michael Romulus to duel it out in a fighting match. Eventually he proves to be a strong Ally.

Slade aka The Shade makes a lot of money from the Demon Fight Club. It also happens Giguhl the demon cat is hired by Slade to fight in the ring for entertainment. Sabina objects at first because she doesn't want him getting hurt. One good thing comes out of it though...he falls in love with Valva a Vain Demon.

Most of the attempted murders on Sabina are recorded in the volume of The Mage in Black by Jaye Wells

ARC Review: Hard As It Gets by Laura Kaye

Hard As It Gets (Hard Ink, #1)
Title: Hard As It Gets (Hard Ink, #1)
    Author: Laura Kaye
    Publisher: Avon Books (HarperCollins)
    Release Date: November 26, 2013
    Rating: 4.5 Stars
Source: ARC received from Publisher via Heidi Richter

I was impressed and shocked at how fast I received this in the mail! Within 24 hours! Unbelievable timing! I could not help but start reading it right away.

Becca is the daughter of a military SOB Colonel who had done something really bad and covered it up. Now her brother Charlie has been kidnapped. Before that he had tried telling Becca that their father isn't the man she thinks he is, however I don't know what he was trying to cover up, until Becca meets Nick.

Nick works in a Tattoo parlor with his brother Jeremy when Becca comes looking for his help. Her brother had given her the contact information to find Nick but he brushes her off and leaves her very unsatisfied even though she thinks he is devastatingly gorgeous....

He feels like an asshole for brushing her off, so he secretly watches her house for a couple days, and when someone does break into her house, he is right where he belongs. Rescuing the damsel in distress scenario, he takes her to his place where she is safer. She doesn't protest much and that is just a win win situation :) I can't wait to read what happens next.....

I'd read North of Need by Laura Kaye and it would seem she has a thing for ice cream when romance heats up in the kitchen. Anyway Nick calls the rest of his fallen troup in to help uncover the secret the colonel was hiding and find Becca's missing brother.

    Red-Headed Stepchild

    Red-Headed Stepchild (Sabina Kane, #1)

    Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells

    A USA Today Bestseller!

In a world where being of mixed-blood is a major liability, Sabina Kane has the only profession fit for an outcast: assassin. But, her latest mission threatens the fragile peace between the vampire and mage races and Sabina must scramble to figure out which side she's on. She's never brought her work home with her---until now.
    This time, it's personal.

I'm finally getting around to reading what my secret santa gifted me with last Christmas. I confess that this book wasn't one of my high priorities, probably due to not having heard of the author before or that it wasn't as popular as other Urban Fantasy books on my TBR shelf. Red-Headed Stepchild is like a foreigner that was so hard to pick up because it feels indifferent to me. idk I just couldn't get into it for the first half of the book but I am on page 187 and it's picking up to where I want Sabina to be. with Adam . I suppose it's asking to much of Sabina to grab some sense and give Adam a chance? I hope so but jeez, Sabina is such a bitch, even to her cat! I want so much for her to find out about the other side of her; the Hekate side, her Mage side but she's being so infuriating and stubborn. If she would only let Adam bring her to her Hekate family then maybe Giguhl the demon could get back to where he belongs, but I think he's kinda cool and particularly helpful to Sabina if she only knew how to use magic like she was made for. ugh. She's a real mess isn't she? I mean now that she's found her grandmother involved in some shady business(kidnapping mancies) what should she think? Can she even trust the Dominae now?

Well suffice it to say NO she can't. Lavinia betrayed her all along and lied to Sabina her whole life. She found out she has a twin and realizes the best way to get back at Lavinia and the Dominae is to take sides with the Hekate Council who plan on going to war with the Dominae. Thanks to Adam for making her see the truth. I'm happy with how it ends because she will be going with Adam to New York to meet her sister who happens to be the hierarchy in the Hekate Council. Yay.

My Review of Stubborn Love by Wendy Owens

    Stubborn Love

    Stubborn Love by Wendy Owens

Life for Emmie Hayes hasn't been easy. After her reality is rocked by tragedy, she heads to New York City in hopes of finding herself again. With a new school and a new outlook on life, Emmie is determined to not let anything distract her. Everything begins to fall into place around her until her roommate, Paige, shows up with the very distraction she tried so desperately to avoid, and he has no intention of being ignored.
His name is Colin Bennett and he isn't part of her new plan. But with his smoldering eyes and perfect body, it would be difficult for any girl to ignore him. Only thing is, Emmie isn't any girl. After her tragic past, there might not be any way into her stubborn heart.
**Stubborn Love is a New Adult Contemporary Novel
and contains mature content not appropriate for readers under 17. **

Being in a dysfunctional and abusive marriage, Emmie had enough when she brushes off Ashton's desperate plea about killing himself and walks out on him. He does shoot himself and that leaves her thinking she is the one responsible and how could she be so cold that she could drive her husband to suicide. It seems stupid to blame herself for his actions but some people are stupid like that. Anyhow I think she made the right decision regardless. Abuse and alcohol addiction is nothing to be taken lightly so I'm glad she got out and I just wish she could've walked away knowing it wasn't her fault he killed himself but this is the only negative I saw to the story, other than that, it was a refreshing change.

I also loved how 'keepin it real' the characters were. Emmie goes to college in New York to further her dream of being an artist and meets up with Paige who Emmie really admires for her wit. Paige hooks Emmie up with her in a 2 bdr apartment and there she meets a gorgeous guy who happens to be her landlord. Colin Bennett owns real estate and his personal life is not without his own share of hard knocks. His brother Christian also happens to be Paige's amour.

Their romance is real hot and their love is true. I can't wait for the next one called 'Only In Dreams' where we get to read about Paige.

***I was provided with a kindle copy in exchange for an honest review

Novella November: Have Yourself a Curvy Little Christmas

Have Yourself a Curvy Little Christmas: A Perfect Fit Holiday Novella

Have Yourself a Curvy Little Christmas: A Perfect Fit Holiday Novella

    by Sugar Jamison

    A Special Holiday Novella!

On the first day of Christmas, Dina Gregory, former wild child and prodigal daughter returns home to New York on a mission. Finding her young son’s father and making him take responsibility for the child he created is the only thing on her wish list. But instead of finding the man she was looking for she runs into his stuffy older brother Ben.
Ben has never liked Dina, but being trapped together on the holidays allows him to see a different side of her. She brings back his Christmas spirit and in the process reminds him what it feels like to love. Dina’s past makes her wary of falling in love, but Ben is determined to make her stay as his permanent Christmas gift.

I really enjoyed this novella! There is nothing better than having a bit of winter fun in the snow and with 'Have Yourself a Curvy Little Christmas' I was delighted with sleigh rides and tobogganing.

Have Yourself a Curvy Little Christmas was a dream come true for Dina. After being dumped by her boyfriend she found herself single and pregnant. I could sympathize with her because I know how hard it is to be a single parent having to support AND care for her child, so Dina took the bull by the horns and took a chance she'd never regret. She sought the help she needed and went to visit her child's wealthy father, who she didn't know was dead. His brother Ben however, was the only one who could help her now and she didn't think he would cuz they never really liked each other .....until she walked through the door. Ben immediately felt attracted to her and he could not put her and a baby out in the cold, besides he wanted to help her because he always wanted children and Dash was the only heir left who could carry on the family business. Dina was thankful for Ben's help and all she wanted really was some extra money for Dash. She was not expecting anything for her as she had a job and dreams of opening up her very own dance studio. I admired her for her self reliance. Life you could say got much better for Ben while she was around as they both had lots of fun with Dash and they fell head over heels in love with each other.

    Favorite quote: Ben to Dina

“Come on, my sweet girl. Wouldn’t you like to make love beneath a Christmas tree just once?” “I might get pine needles in my hoo hoo.” “I’ll pick them out.”

Novella November A Vampire's Christmas Carol

    A Vampire's Christmas Carol

Every year it seems there is another take of the famous Charles Dickens classic that viewers know and love so well. A Bit of Trivia: did you know that the Christmas Carol was a novella?

A Vampire's Christmas Carol is yet another brilliant and well written version. Although it tended to overly manipulate the fabrics, I felt it worked out in the HEA anyway.

Ben Prescott was once a beautiful successful businessman living in New York who fell in love, unbeknowingly with his guardian angel. Her name was Simone. She was his reason for hope and light and everything he needed to be a better vampire

    Goodreads Summary:

    This holiday season has bite.
Ben Prescott hates Christmas—he’s a vampire, and to him, there’s certainly nothing jolly about the holiday season. While the humans are running around being merry, he’s hunting in the shadows. Ben plans to spend the holidays his way…by stalking deadly prey.

But fate has other plans for Ben.
Three visitors are coming Ben’s way…A demon who will force Ben to face his past, a ghost who will show Ben the present he could have, and a shifter who will reveal the darkness that waits in Ben’s future. Unless Ben can change his ways, he may just turn into a real monster, one who can’t be saved by anyone or anything.

    ’Tis the season…to be undead.
Ben’s redemption rests in the hands of the one woman he loved and lost—Simone Laurent. If Ben is going to have a chance at being more than just the beast in the darkness, he has to prove himself to the lovely Simone. A very hard task, considering that, once upon a Christmas Eve, Simone died in Ben’s arms…
    _________

Warning: This book features one very tortured vampire, a sexy ghost from his past, and hot scenes designed to melt the winter snow. Plenty of action, adult situations, and steamy times are ahead. Happy holidays!

    Novella November: Happily Never After

(Night Huntress - Complete World #2.5)

Isabella Spaga is about to reluctantly walk down the aisle with Mr. Dangerously Wrong...but not if dashing vampire Chance has anything to say about it. As a favor to Bones, Chance has come to derail this wedding of beauty to the beast. Now if only he can keep his hands off the bride.

From "New York Times" bestselling author Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress world, it's the wedding of the season...that everyone wants to miss. (Originally appeared in "Weddings From Hell" anthology)

    My Thoughtsaboutit

A vampire who Bones sired is sent to take care of a problem for his old friend Greta because she's worried her grandchildren, Isabella and Frazier are in trouble with a Mob boss Robert Bertini.

I chose to read this for novella november because it is part of the Night Huntress Series. I'm lovin it so far with one exception..... I think Chance is a hot vampire who really should have his own series damn!

    Memorable Quotes

“Of course you are. Then you’re going to give me multiple orgasms and pay off my mortgage too. I saw this movie, pal. It was in the fantasy section.”

Isa began to pace. “This is too weird. You’re some kind of wacko David Copperfield and my grandmother hired you to abracadabra my brother safely back?”

Oh, shit. She was so in trouble. Last night after almost kissing him, Isa had berated herself for hours about the stupidity of getting involved with some pseudo-magician whacko—albeit a smolderingly sexy one—when she still had to find her brother and get out of marrying a career criminal. Yet here she was now, getting all starry-eyed over something as benign as Chance’s feet, for crying out loud. That was it. She was getting a vibrator.

    Reckoning (Night Huntress, #0.5)

    (Night Huntress novella #0.5)

In New Orleans, a pair of undead serial killers is about to turn Mardi Gras into a horror show - unless the immortal hitman Bones can hunt them down first. From Jeaniene Frost comes a thrilling novella featuring characters from her New York Times bestselling Night Huntress series. Originally appeared in the anthology Unbound.

When unsuspecting Eric picks up a gorgeous woman while on a Haunted Bus Tour, the only thought on his mind was he was going to get laid. It never occurred to him that what she said about 'eating him' meant that she was actually and literally going to eat him. She was a murderous ghoul and supposed to be dead. Her name was Delphine Lalaurie.

Reckoning takes place before Ohio, before Cat, when Bones was in New Orleans. Bones was hired by Jelani, to get rid of the "dead murderous duo" Louis and Delphine LaLaurie who were terrorizing the city. It was Jelani who only wanted revenge for having been turned into a ghoul by them when he was their slave over a century ago..

...except Jelani was not supposed to be doing shit without the Voo-Doo Queen of New Orleans Marie Laveau knowing. She would have to kill them both.

I especially like when Bones gets banned from New Orleans. There was also another odd character who I can't remember the spelling of. He made Bones' Hunt all the more perilous. lol

    The Enlightening

    Mackenzie Duncan Series #2

      by Adrianne James

      Genre: NA Paranormal

      Release Date: December 6, 2013

Mackenzie Duncan found out that pack life wasn’t for her. Now she is running for the second time in the six months since she was bitten and turned into a Werewolf. But this time, she isn’t alone. This time, she has Geoff and Liam with her, two very hot Werewolves vying for her heart.

But her companions aren't her focus. The only thing she can focus on is getting far from her old pack and their murderous ways. Only, she doesn’t just want to run. She wants to warn every pack she can that their lives are in danger too. No one should be turned against their will like she was and no other pack should have to surrender to the ideas of a centuries old, power hungry woman.

Not only does Mackenzie have to deal with her crazy ex-pack leader sending people out to kill her, she has to keep both men at arm’s length (and that proves to be much more difficult than she thought), but she finds out more about her own life and heritage than she ever thought imaginable.

    And suddenly, everything makes sense...

    About Adrianne James

Growing up, Adrianne couldn't get her hands on enough books to satisfy her need for the make believe. If she finished a novel and didn't have a new one ready and waiting for her, she began to create her own tales of magic and wonder. Now, as an adult, books still make up majority of her free time, and now her tales get written down to be shared with the world.

During the day, Adrianne uses her camera to capture life's stories for clients of all ages and at night, after her two children are tucked in bed; she devotes herself to her written work. Adrianne is living the life she always wanted, surrounded by art and beauty, the written word and a loving family.

As a young adult and new adult author, Adrianne James has plans to bring stories of growing characters, a little romance, and perhaps a little magic and mythology down the line for her readers to enjoy.

    Review Halfway to the Grave

Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1)

    Halfway to the Grave

    Night Huntress, Book One

    by Jeaniene Frost

Catherine Crawfield was born with certain vampire qualities. Her eyes would glow green and she could see ghosts. She was a half breed which explains the title. In other words she was Half Dead.

From the moment Catherine Crawfield was caught driving with a busted tailight I immersed myself into a fantasy world that was too harsh for a young woman who'd taken to killing vampires with a vengeance but the only way she could do that was with her womanly wiles.

She's one heck of a bitch though. Sometimes her manners were like sandpaper to my ears and I didn't like the way she'd treated Bones at first but her tone changed when she began falling for him, thank god. Bones was a vampire hunter already and he thought he could use her help to catch the real big bad guys, so he begins training her to be a great fighter as well.

Halfway to the Grave is the perfect romance to cuddle up with anytime of the year but to be honest I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much had I not read the novella first. Home for the Holidays (Night Huntress #6.5). So strap on your seat belts cuz this is going to be one helluva vampy ride
