A New Holiday

I’d like to invent a reading holiday where all's you do is pick a book to read and quote it, talk about it, share it wherever you like. Let the world know about READABOOKDAY!

I’m reading DarkFever by Karen Marie Moning
MacKayla is young and naive who goes in search of her sisters murderer. She travels to Ireland , Dublin. There she starts seeing Fae monsters and with the impervious brute Jericho Barron , she gets herself involved in an incomprehensive mystery way over her head; something her sister had said before she died about “Shi-sadu”. I’m only on chapter nine but so far I don’t like Jericho for physically attacking MacKayla.

“My philosophy is pretty simple-any day nobody’s trying to kill me is a good day in my book. I haven’t had many good days lately.”
This post was inspired by Plinky Prompts: Invent a holiday! Explain how and why everyone should celebrate.

When was the last time you visited a library?

Divergent
It's been at least a couple months since I visited a library. It was when I returned a book. I can't even remember what the book was admittingly. I like to go to Chapters though. Recently I bought Divergent by Veronica Roth and finished reading it yesterday. I'm glad I don't have to wait long for Insurgent. It comes out next month so I'll probably purchase that book as well.

I should visit the library more, it would be much cheaper but then again I don't like deadlines and I also have no more room on my bookshelf. There's no excuse really. I live right across the way from one. I guess it's because I'm impatient. When I want to read a book , I want it and I want it now. I don't like waiting and most of the time because the book isn't available it means I have to be put on the waiting list, so instead I just go out and buy the book. It's different with Ebooks but I could spend a fortune there and I'd rather not.

Gardening Experience

Kitchen Garden
Just for fun. In Zeralda when we were kids we lived in a villa that had an outside garden with a little bit of dirt and we used to spit our watermelon seeds there and grew watermelon unintentionally!. Before we knew it we had small watermelon the size of a cantaloupe.. Another time I grew potatoes on the side of my townhouse. I was composting actually.

Recently I thought of growing a hydroponic garden in our community. I actually entered The Aviva Community Fund contest in order to get funds to grow a hydroponic garden in our community. The problem with living in the city is not having enough space to grow a decent size garden. Hydroponics is an ideal way to grow your own food where it doesn't take up a lot of space. Heck you can do this in your own basement or on a balcony but unfortunately not many people know how to start one.

My Favorite Family Gatherings

Plinky Prompt

What are your favorite types of family gatherings?
One with a lot of beer and food where we get to watch home movies/videos/film on a large screen on the wall. My brother has a projector and he made some home movies out of old filmstrips belonging to my mother when she had a movie camera . These are precious fun filled memories worth gathering for.

My favorite type of gathering is also when we play games together and mostly chat about the memories we had as kids and funny experiences and lessons we learnt . I love my brothers and sisters and it's a lot of fun when we get together.

The last little get together wasn't quite with the whole family but it was my birthday and so I decided to make it a taco tuesday birthday celebration. There was a lot of beer but it was only celebrated with two of my sisters .

Mothers day this year was very memorial . Our whole family got together again after 30 years or more and it was fun . My parents are divorced and they both were there . We watched home movies with popcorn and lots of alcohol .

A Book Recommendation

The Boy in the Striped PajamasThe Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

It's about a nine year old boy named Bruno whose family is relocated from their Berlin home because of his fathers new job as a commandant . He explains what it is like living in .....Out With . Can you guess where that is?

Anyway he meets a boy who lived on the other side of the fence and they become friends even though they would both be in trouble if the soldiers or his father knew about it . He manages to keep it a secret but tells his sister that he has an imaginary friend .

At one point it brought tears to my eyes when Bruno gave his new friend some food in the kitchen and when he got caught he told the soldier that he had never seen Shmuel before, which was a lie and it kind of reminded me of Peter denying Jesus .

It is a very carefully written story about how the Nazis treated Jews . Of course we see it through the eyes of a naive child named Bruno but that is what I liked about it.

I recommend it and I hope to watch the movie as well .

There is no such word as luck in My vocabulary!

In the words of Robert Heinlein : There is no such thing as luck. There is only adequate or inadequate preparation to cope with a statistical universe.

If it seems like coincidence well there is a name for that where I come from and it's called divine providence . There is nothing in this life that happens without it being foreseen by God , yet most people forget to call on Him for help. There is an evil one as well unfortunately . As shit happens good things happen too.

Allow me to give you a good example . In a message of True Life In God Vassula writes of an incident .
In our new flat the concierge closes and locks the main entrance to the flats by 10.00 at night. Last night we had forgotten our key in the flat. On seeing the door closed we knew we were locked out. I went to the door pleading, "O God, don't tell me it's locked let it be open! please!" It was locked, but at the same minute one of the neighbours was just arriving too and opened it.
You'd think it's just a coincidence or that it was lucky that the neighbour arrived at that moment but it is God who helps us.
Behind every happening there is a providence.

My Ideal Saturday Night

I don't like to drink but I do have one or two beer occasionally so drinking is not my idea of a good time . Oddly I feel better when I go to Church especially when I'm able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist . That makes everything feel a little lighter and brighter and gives me strength and graces and I like that . So my ideal saturday night would not be without going to Church first of all . Then going to some fancy restaurant with someone you love and ordering your favorite foods , whatever that may be . The ideal saturday night for me wouldn't be without having gone shopping for a dress or new shoes to wear. Going out to a movie afterwards is how I like to spend Saturday nights. Expect it isn't cheap , that's all .

1. shopping for a nice dress or shoes or both
2. going to church
3. nice restaurant good food
4. movie

Impulsive Driving

Recently , I got into an accident because I am an impulsive driver. I was at a stop behind a truck underneath a bridge and the two lanes were really narrow . I thought I was in the wrong turning lane ; I wanted to go left and I was in the right lane so I mistakenly maneuvered my way into the left lane and I managed to take the trucks left back tail light off and my sideview mirror , sideswiping both cars ugh. That was my first fender bender .

That's probably not the most impulsive thing I've ever done but it's recent .

My Longest Road Trip

King's Highway 17 - Ontario
It was so long that I don't even remember it plus it was a long time ago . The road went on forever . It was when I travelled from Sarnia Ontario to Calgary with my grandmother and my aunt and another older man I didn't even know . The trans-canada highway is the longest national highway in the world that stretches from St.Johns Newfoundland to Victoria British columbia . I thought we'd never make it out of the great lakes UGH! the road was long and winding and we drove all the way around them. I think just to get out of ontario took us 3 days and the whole trip was about 5 days. Anyway I was completely and utterly BORED STIFF! I had the back seat all to myself so I pretty much slept through most of it , but what I do remember is that it was my longest road trip ever .

What's the perfect age to retire?

we're aristocrats bitches!

retire from what? If it is from worldly affairs than I suppose when you are born. God didn't lead the children of Israel into the wilderness to put a yoke back on them . He wanted to show them that if they believed in Him then He would take care of them . They formerly lived as slaves in Egypt , working for their bread under the tyranny of Pharoah.

I consider the slaves in Egypt analogous to the workers of this world <-the whore of babylon. "Lifes a bitch and then you die " is a famous cliche and for good reason . How hard is it to work in society for a decent wage ? I mean if you aren't your own boss or own your own company it's extremely hard to make ends meet , and your lucky if you make it to age 65 in good health. It's like you must sacrifice your health if you want to make a living :/

Is There Anybody Out There?

No I would not use an online dating service .

I don't have a problem meeting people in reality, and I would never in a million years think about online dating . It is a waste of time and it would be better talking to a wall. Like Social networking . Imo , myspace is not a place to make friends but enemies.

I believe people tend to act differently online ; perhaps you are just trying to fill a void in your life where in reality you are a plain idiot . I would not want to be in a relationship with someone like that .

I Was Blind But Now I See

If I could see one Day......it would be the day when satan is locked up in hell . The thousand year reign of peace . I imagine the earth will be cleansed and made beautiful again.

Plinky Prompt: What do you do when you can't sleep at night?

Blessed Rosary
The only thing I can do; Stay Awake! I think that is the point anyway . If that is the case, we are told to pray.

Pray the rosary and 9 times out of 10 you will fall asleep . If that doesn't work idk take a shower and get ready for the next day; eat something or cook yourself some breakfast . I don't work so it's probably not what most people who have to work want to hear . Sleep deprivation is not a problem with me .

What foods will you never develop an acquired taste for?

I will never acquire a taste for escargot , mussels, clams, oysters, squid or any other type of seafood like that. To me they don't have a taste and it's the texture I don't like . I don't like slimy; never have never will even if they are covered in butter or chocolate which I doubt goes well with it anyway , at least the chocolate; but I could probably try chocolate covered grasshopper legs ; or maybe not ; ew; the thought is repulsing. I've never had caviar either but I'm quite sure I could acquire a taste for that .

What about drinks?
