Pina “Greena” Colada Smoothie

1 can full-fat coconut milk
2 cups pineapple juice (or crushed pineapple or pineapple chunks)
1 banana (sliced and then frozen is ideal, but not necessary)
1/2 cup shredded coconut/coconut flakes
several ice cubes
handful of baby spinach leaves (about 1/2 cup, packed)

Blend first five ingredients together until smooth. … add your last ingredient—a handful of baby spinach leaves—to your blender/Vitamix/Blendtec container. Blend a bit more on high until spinach is incorporated.

P is for Papaya & Passionfruit Tea

Papaya Passionfruit
Green Tea
I heard that drinking tea can help get rid of food cravings/addictions . Now I don't know if that's true but there is one way to find out . By testing it right? You have to admit it IS a healthier choice/alternative than soft drinks . Tea is full of antioxidants and it tastes good too.

When I was doing the lemonade , I made some Peppermint tea and added some liquid sweetener and it was very good cause we are allowed to drink herb tea and the peppermint acts as a mouth wash .

Anyhow the name "passionfruit" resulted from the diaries of early Spanish missionaries who recorded accounts of seeing the flowers during church holiday seasons, especially during the Lent and Easter holidays, reminding them of the Passion of Christ. Today, the use of the tangy passion fruit juice is said to soothe the sensual and lusty passions of savage taste buds, a far cry from the early church writings. Native to Brazil, passion fruits are presently grown in Hawaii, Florida, and California.

Papaya is a tropical fruit that originally grew in southern Mexico. Passion fruit, also a tropical fruit was originally grown in Central America. Both are now cultivated in most countries with a tropical climate, such as Brazil, India, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines. While papaya is an excellent and refreshing end to any meal, the distinct taste of passion fruit makes it an essential ingredient for cocktails. So this secret blend mixed with Pure Ceylon high grown tea produces an exciting and refreshing drink.

Another tea that begins with P is Peach Passion

You can also make your own herbal blends by using ingredients like Nettles, Oat straw, Calendula flowers, Rose petals, Hibiscus flowers, Melissa (lemon balm), Elder berry flowers, Licorice root etc...

The herb teas can either be made hot or cold .

Tera Warner is offering a program that teaches you how to use the Power of Plants to improve your health . She says "What if you could open your "medicine" cabinet and find Plants instead of Pills?"

Getting Rid Of My Acne

Ok , I am on a quest to get rid of my Acne. Up until now I had been using antibiotics and obviously it did not cure it cause I still have horrible breakouts and I do not want nor do I intend to take prescribed medication for the rest of my life!  so , here is what I found out on juicing-for-health.com .
It suggests to stay away from fried stuff, trans-fatty acids, refined carbohydrates and processed foods.  Wheat, chocolate, sugar and alcohol also cause allergic skin reactions.
  • - Done .Oh.  I bought a juicer . It should be arriving next week .  This is easy to do since I have been on a raw food diet , and I know those things irritate my skin  particularly alcohol and it is always helpful if you want to lose weight to stay away from all that.
Avoid excessive iodine as it can irritate pores and further cause inflammation to the acne.  Iodine are high in iodized (table) salt, in fried foods, sea weed (keep away from that sushi), shellfish and dairy products (except yogurt).
  • - well I already switched to using sea salt or himalayan crystal salt and I have only eaten sushi once and I don't like seafood especially, but sea weed? hmmm I'll have to check into that cause there are some greens that I heard Cherie Soria use in her raw recipes .
  • - Cherie Soria, is “The Mother of Gourmet Raw Cuisine”, founder and director of the Living Light Culinary Institute, in California. She is the author of three books including Raw Food Revolution Diet: Feast, Lose Weight, Gain Energy, Feel Younger .
Maintain a general care of your acne by washing the affected areas with a mild soap.  Use only water-based cosmetic (if you must use cosmetic), otherwise avoid cosmetic to prevent further clogging of the pores.
  • -Ok . lately I have been using a bit of antibacterial soap on my facecloth lol . I know that’s harsh . I also use an apricot facial scrub from St. Yves .
Increase your intake of zinc, vitamins A and E, selenium, chromium and folic acid.  These can be found in most nuts, wheat grain cereals, brewer's yeast, legumes, sweet potatoes and liver.  Eat also papaya, persimmons and apricots for their high-content of vitamin A.
  • - No problem :) I love all kinds of nuts . I even had persimmons for the first time at the last raw food meetup I attended . They were good in pie :)
It is important during this time, to drink lots (and I mean lots) of pure water to flush out the toxins.  Drink lots of juices also, especially those high in vitamin A, beta-carotene and anti-oxidants. Heal from within and you will rid your acne for good.
  • - Drinking Juice is what I am doing now :)
Note: For severe acne cases, take 2 tbsp of fresh flaxseed oil a day, and drink plenty juices. Do this faithfully for at least two weeks and you will see much of your acne clear up.
  • - I didn't know this! Great! I am going to have to get some flaxseed oil .

You can listen to his podcast about growing your own super vitamins and enzymes here:

I am so interested and want to learn more about it because I too suffer from Acne and would like to heal myself but I don't know where to begin *sigh

Check out a Sprout History Lesson

I thought these lyrics were pretty cute
"WHY THE SPROUT BAG"

A Rap Song (set to rap music rhyme)

©1981 by Steve Meyerowitz, Sproutman®

Jars are real sad

'Cause for sprouting they're so bad.

The Bacteria they enclose

Smells so rotten to your nose.

You can stop growing old

Fight'n mean Mr. Mold.

Chuck the jars,

They're a drag,

Graduate up to the bag.

1 More Reason To Drink Orange Juice

Today is the 10th Day of the Master cleanse and for the next day or two I will be drinking orange juice . I never liked orange juice before . strange eh? I was so deprived of their juicy fruity goodness . I also decided the one word for 2011 for me is Health , besides the fact it begins with my favorite letter . It is a challenge I think I am ready for .

So in case you are wondering why I'm doing all this it's because of my health . Over the last 5 years or so I've experienced dizziness, numbness in areas of my legs and fingers, high blood pressure, and of course I had to quit smoking and guess what? I did it ! I've not had a regular smoke in over a week! Oh yes I do Greensmoke   I also want to clear up my acne rosacea . I have suffered with acne since I was a teenager . Although at one point it was so bad the doctor put me on Acutane , which was supposed to cure it; it cleared my skin but never really got to the cause . so now that I am an adult it apparently resurfaced and is called adult acne and/or rosacea .

I learnt that Acne is not a disease but a cure for the many toxic substances that we all ingest such as , cooked foods, meats, dairy products and processed junk . It could be worse couldn't it . I have been losing a lot of my hair too . So , I'm on a personal quest to try to do everything I can to remedy this SAD situation . It's about time I took responsibility for my health . I need to start listening to my body and add more greens in my diet and learn to live healthy because I don't want to die or experience anymore debilitating diseases that the SAD (standard American diet) produces.

So for me it begins with the master cleanse aka lemonade diet and green smoothies. I will be going to buy a box of oranges and then blend them up and strain them through a nut milk bag or some strainer to get the pulp out . That's all I can do because I can't afford a good juicer right now and I don't believe this 'Raw Diet' has to be expensive . C'mon ! I might need to purchase a better blender eventually but for now my Osterizer works just fine .

What I mean by eating Raw is by eating fruits and vegetables and all kinds of leafy greens, nuts and seeds in their natural forms . I mean uncooked food. This is what I am going to be consuming . I have already lost 17 pounds since January 1st woot woot!! I started losing weight by drinking green smoothies . If you want to know who the real green smoothie queen is click HERE

Chocolate Velvet

This recipe is to die live for . I mean who would ever think avocados could taste so good?

I know in the raw food community avocados are used instead of cream and dairy i.e: butter to make things smoothe . I personally love avocados just the way they are but add raw cacao and you get chocolate velvet :)

My boyfriend does not like avocados (I don't know why) but shhhh don't tell him .

1 ripe avocado
6 tablespoons unsweetened raw cocoa powder
1/4 cup agave syrup, maple syrup, or other liquid sweetener
2 tablespoons evaporated cane juice, optional
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons plus 1/2 cup purified water

1. Combine the avocado, cocoa powder, agave syrup, evaporated cane juice, 2 tablespoons of the water, and the vanilla extract and cinnamon in a food processor fitted with the S blade and process until smooth.
2. Add the remaining 1/2 cup of water and process again until well blended. The more water you add, the thinner the sauce will be.

FLAX CRACKERS

FLAX IN SNOW
By  Marie-Claire Hermans, Ravishing Raw Coach
Flax crackers come in all sizes and tastes. The taste of flax seeds is so neutral that you can add whatever you like in there. You can make them spicy, soft, green, savory, sweet; it all depends on what mood you are in. Make lots of them in different tastes and store them in a sealed container so you always have a nice choice for every craving.
We all tend to make tasty crackers, but sometimes all you want is a very neutral one which doesn't take over the tastes of your toppings. This golden cracker is made of golden flax crackers only and is just perfect to put loads of vegetables and dressing on top. It is a great basis to add other ingredients and experiment with.

TOOLS YOU NEED
  • A blender or grinder
  • A large bowl
  • A spatula
INGREDIENTS FOR ONE TRAY
  • 1 C of golden flax seeds
  • 1 C of ground golden flax seeds
  • 1/2 C pure water
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
THE MAKING OF... TAKES ABOUT FIVE MINUTES
You can pre- soak the seeds overnight if you wish, but if you are in a hurry just use them dry
  • Grind 1 C of flax seeds with the salt
  • Add the flour to the bowl with the whole flax seeds
  • Mix well
  • Take a tray and spread the mixture (the height of the edge of the tray is the perfect height for the crackers)
  • Dry for five to six hours
  • Flip and let them dry overnight or for about 8 more hours, depending on how crunchy you like them
That's it actually. Easy and nice. Enjoy playing in the kitchen!

Aphrodisiac Food for Valentines

  • Almond
A symbol of fertility throughout the ages. The aroma is thought to induce passion in a female. Try serving Marzipan (almond paste) in the shapes of fruits for a special after-dinner treat.

  • Aniseed
A very popular aphrodisiac with many culinary uses. It has been used as an aphrodisiac since the Greeks and the Romans, who believed aniseed had special powers. Sucking on the seeds is said to increase your desire.
  • Arugula
Arugula or "rocket" seed has been documented as an aphrodisiac since the first century A.D. This ingredient was added to grated orchid bulbs and parsnips and also combined with pine nuts and pistachios. Arugula greens are frequently used in salads and pasta.

  • Asafetida
An Indian dried, powdered herb used as a sexual stimulant in Ayurvedic medicine. The herb has a very strong, garlicy flavor.

  • Asparagus
Given it's phallic shape, asparagus is frequently enjoyed as an aphrodisiac food. Feed your lover boiled or steamed spears for a sensuous experience. The Vegetarian Society suggests "eating asparagus for three days for the most powerful affect".

  • Avocado
The Aztecs called the avocado tree "Ahuacuatl which translated means "testicle tree". The ancients thought the fruit hanging in pairs on the tree resembled the male's testicles. This is a delicious fruit with a sensuous texture. Serve in slices with a small amount of Balsamic vinegar and freshly ground pepper.

  • Bananas
The banana flower has a marvelous phallic shape and is partially responsible for popularity of the banana as an aphrodisiac food. An Islamic myth tells the tale that after Adam and Eve succumbed to the "Apple" they started covering their "nudity" with banana leaves rather than fig. From a more practical standpoint bananas are rich in potassium and B vitamins, necessities for sex hormone production.

  • Basil (sweet basil)
Is said to stimulate the sex drive and boost fertility. It is also said to produce a general sense of well being for body and mind.

  • Broccoli Rabe (And Other Mustard Greens)
The ground seeds of various plants in the brassica family were believed to increase virility. In the case of broccoli rabe its more likely a myth created to get people to eat this bitter vegetable.

  • Chocolate
The Aztecs referred to chocolate "nourishment of the Gods". Chocolate contains chemicals thought to effect neurotransmitters in the brain and a related substance to caffeine called theobromine. Chocolate contains more antioxidant (cancer preventing enzymes) than does red wine. The secret for passion is to combine the two. Try a glass of Cabernet with a bit of dark chocolate for a sensuous treat .

The Empowered Chocolate Bar with Raw Cacao Nibs

  • Carrots
Another good reason to eat carrots--believed to be a stimulant to the male. The phallus shaped carrot has been associated with stimulation since ancient times and was used by early Middle Eastern royalty to aid seduction. High vitamins and beta-carotene. Perhaps a justification for a piece of carrot cake?

  • Coffee
Caffeine is a well-know stimulant but remember, too much and it becomes a depressant. Serve small amounts of rich dark coffee in special little demitasse cups. Coffee stimulates both the body and the mind so partake of a little in preparation for an "all-nighter".

  • Coriander (Cilantro seed)
The book of The Arabian nights tells a tale of a merchant who had been childless for 40 years but was cured by a concoction that included coriander. That book is over 1000 years old so the history of coriander as an aphrodisiac dates back far into history. Cilantro was also know to be used as an "appetite" stimulant.

  • Fennel
In the 1930's fennel was found to be a source of natural plant estrogens. Use of fennel as an aphrodisiac dates back to the Egyptian times where it was used as "libido enhancement".

  • Figs
An open fig is thought to emulate the female sex organs and traditionally thought of as sexual stimulant. A man breaking open a fig and eating it in front of his lover is a powerful erotic act. Serve fresh Black Mission figs in a cool bowl of water as it is done in Italy and be sure to eat with your fingers!

  • Garlic
The 'heat' in garlic is said to stir sexual desires. Make sure you and your partner share it together. Garlic has been used for centuries to cure everything from the common cold to heart ailments. This is a good time for moderation. Enjoy a pasta with a lightly garlicky sauce and it and lead up to something spicy in the bedroom later.

  • Ginger
Ginger root raw, cooked or crystallized is a stimulant to the circulatory system. Perhaps a stir-fry with freshly grated ginger can stir something spicy up in the bedroom later.

  • Honey
Many medicines in Egyptian times were based on honey including cures for sterility and impotence. Medieval seducers plied their partners with Mead, a fermented drink made from honey. Lovers on their "Honeymoon" drank mead and it was thought to "sweeten" the marriage.

  • Liquorice (licorice)
The Chinese have used licorice for medicinal purposes since ancient times. The essence of the Glycyrrhiza glabra (licorice) plan, glycrrhizin, is 50 time sweeter than sugar. Chewing on bits of licorice root is said to enhance love and lust. It is particularly stimulating to woman.

  • Mustard
Believed to stimulate the sexual glands and increase desire. Prepare a tenderloin roast (filet mignon) for two with a mustard and peppercorn sauce.

  • Nutmeg
Nutmeg was highly prized by Chinese women as an aphrodisiac. In quantity nutmeg can produce a hallucinogenic effect. A light sprinkling of the spice in a warm pumpkin soup can help spice up your evening.

  • Oysters
Oysters were documented as a aphrodisiac food by the Romans in the second century A.D as mentioned in a satire by Juvenal. He described the wanton ways of women after ingesting wine and eating "giant oysters". An additional hypotheses is that the oyster resembles the "female" genitals. In reality oysters are a very nutritious and high in protein.(I think I'll pass on this one)

  • Pine Nuts
Zinc is a key mineral necessary to maintain male potency and pine nuts are rich in zinc. Pine nuts have been used to stimulate the libido as far back as Medieval times. Serve pine nut cookies with a dark espresso for a stimulating dessert.

  • Pineapple
Rich in vitamin C and and is used in the homeopathic treatment for impotence. Add a spear to a sweet Rum drink for a tasty prelude to an evening of passion.

  • Raspberries and Strawberries
Perfect foods for hand feeding your lover. "Both invite love and are described in erotic literature as fruit nipples" Both are high in vitamin C and make a sweet light dessert.

  • Truffles
The Greeks and the Romans considered the rare Truffle to be an aphrodisiac. The musky scent is said to stimulate and sensitize the skin to touch.

  • Vanilla
The scent and flavor of vanilla is believed to increase lust. According to the Australian Orchid Society, "Old Totonac lore has it that Xanat, the young daughter of the Mexican fertility goddess, loved a Totonac youth. Unable to marry him due to her divine nature, she transformed herself into a plant that would provide pleasure and happiness." Fill tall Champagne glasses to the rim and add a vanilla bean for a heady, bubbly treat.

  • Wine
A glass or two of wine can greatly enhance a romantic interlude. Wine relaxes and helps to stimulate our senses. Drinking wine can be an erotic experience. Let your eyes feast on the color of the liquid. Caress the glass, savor the taste on your lips. Do remember that excessive alcohol will make you too drowsy for the after-dinner romance. A moderate amount of wine has been said to "arouse" but much more than that amount with have the reverse affect.

The Neera Super Cleanse

I didn't think the Master cleanse could get any better but now there is an improved version called Neera Super Cleanse. The secret is in the sap lol that is because instead of using maple syrup , you use Palm syrup . Wow!

To read the Story of the Neera Super Cleanse click here

Neera is a Sanskrit word which roughly translates to palm syrup, but its fuller meaning is “life essence of the palm tree.” It is the life force of the palm tree, the energy that would become the flower and the fruit of the tree. Neera has been used for thousands of years in traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine. Neera is the essence of the Neera™ Super Cleanse.

Check it out

For a days worth of the cleanse here is what you do. Mix 5 oz. of syrup, 5 oz. of lemon juice, 54 oz of purified water and cayenne pepper to taste.

For One Glass of Neera mix 2 Tbsp. Fresh Lemon or Lime Juice, add 2 Tbsp of the Madal Bal syrup , a Pinch of cayenne pepper and 10 oz of water.

M is for Master Cleanser

The Master Cleanse is something I have greatly benefited from in the past and I credit it to me wanting to live a raw food lifestyle . I found the booklet inspiring and full of good information  but if you want you can just click on the picture for the pdf online version.
The book has more info and goes into much more detail as to how the lemons and maple syrup and cayenne pepper are good for you and why. I am thinking of doing it again beginning January 15th . Who's in?
Here's the recipe to make the lemonade :

* 2 Tablespoons of fresh squeezed organic lemon juice
* 2 Tablespoons of grade B maple syrup
* 1/10 Teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
* 10 oz of filtered water

This is just a single serving of lemonade, but you should drink 6-12 servings a day.
Let me just add , a 6oz glass of water with some squeezed lemon is always a good start to any day .

As you all may remember Jenny Matlock was offering lemons from her front yard! , and I'm still wondering if I will be getting any since she said she sent something in the mail but I haven't received anything yet and I don't know what it is :(

Anyway , we all know lemons are a natural cleansing agent and are considered to be ideal for detoxification of the body. They are hailed by many as a miracle fruit and one of the most alkalinizing foods.

Thank you for stopping by today ! This has been another edition of Alphabe Thursday with the letter 'M'

The Fail List

This post is linked to Saturday centus. An Up to 100-word writing meme based on a prompt .
This week the prompt is in blockquotes . I chose to take advantage of our 'gift'  this week cause "I never look a gift horse in the mouth" :)
"Her crumpled up list of resolutions..."
The Fail List

She didn't need to make life more complicated than it was already . Failure was not something she wanted but it evidently always ended up that way. Her life was worth more than "her crumpled up list of resolutions..." she thought.
