The Rapture is a protestant term . As a catholic I can translate it as the 'Warning' or as an Orthodox the 'Purification '. It is not at all how Harold Camping and his co-horts think as they are clearly false prophets. Instead the Day of The Lord is the day of retribution and like scriptures say "suddenly upon you will come a time of great distress, unparalleled since nations first came to existence;" Daniel 12:1.
First of all the term End Times does not mean the end of the world but an end of an era and many of the words in scriptures are symbolic or figurative. The purification won't be a natural fire , but an immaterial one by the Fire of the Holy Spirit and the ‘rapture’ of the souls is already taking place. How is that? By believing and converting towards God, by changing our lives and coming closer to God. When this happens the person is choosing to be with God and Love Him. This way he enters the ‘rapture’ serving Him and preparing to meet Him. All these mysteries can be revealed only through the light of the Holy Spirit. This great event in the history of salvation is imminent and will produce unity and purity in the church.
However, according to Pope Benedict, Christ’s coming as Judge and the end of the world is NOT now for there are certain events that are pronounced in the bible to happen first. For one the antichrist needs to be revealed.
Yes there will be a time of great distress according to Daniel 11:31 and Daniel 11:36-39. but the man of sin will be destroyed by the Coming of Our Lord and then the 1000 year Reign of Christ and/or Era of Peace that Our Lady of Fatima prophesies to happen , which corresponds to the Triumph of her Immaculate Heart. After that we read in Rev 20:7-10 that Satan will be loosed again for the final time ushering in the Final Judgement and the New Heavens and the New Earth Rev 21:1-4.

In a General audience on November 12th, 2008, the Holy Father explains what exactly is "delaying" this coming:Source .
…before the Lord’s arrival there will be apostasy, and one well described as the "man of lawlessness", "the son of perdition" must be revealed, who tradition would come to call the Antichrist. —POPE BENEDICT XVI, St. Peter’s Square; his remarks are a reiteration of St. Paul’s warning in 2 Thessalonians 2 on the return of Christ.

Since the Ascension, Christ’s coming in glory has been imminent, even though "it is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority." This eschatological coming could be accomplished at any moment, even if both it and the final trial that will precede it are "delayed". —Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 673
