Shocking secrets.
Evie has fully come into her powers as the Tarot Empress, and Jack was there to see it all. She now knows that the teens who've been reincarnated as the Tarot are in the throes of an epic battle. It's kill or be killed, and the future of mankind hangs in the balance.
Unexpected allies.
With threats lurking around every corner, Evie is forced to trust her newfound alliance. Together they must fight not only other Arcana, but also Bagmen zombies, post-apocalyptic storms, and cannibals.
Gut-wrenching treachery.
When Evie meets Death, things get even more complicated. Though falling for Jack, she's drawn to the dangerous Endless Knight as well. Somehow the Empress and Death share a history—one that Evie can't remember, but Death can't forget... In this seductive follow-up to Poison Princess, #1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole takes us deeper into the dark world of the Arcana Chronicles.

My Review

"My relationship with Jackson had felt fated. Whatever I had with Aric felt . . . endless."

I would rather have liked to see Evie kill Aric and move on from that Immortal turmoil when she had the chance. How are Aric and Evie made for each other? Death and Life don't mix, I mean those cards are just wrong aren't they? I don't know what we're supposed to gather from that relationship. Neither the Empress nor Death had learned anything from their past mistakes it seems. Death made it easy for her by giving her the opportunity to kill him. But she didn't. O well. Infuriating as I am over that whole ordeal, her powers were weak, and she should've been the one to kill the Evil card, Ogen.
Other than that, I enjoyed the different scenery, giving us a respite in Death's Castle from the apocalyptic landscape.
I thought the idea that she didn't want to play the game was just an excuse for cowardliness. But maybe she just wants everything to be butterflies and rainbows where people learned to love each other instead of killing each other. She doesn't appear to be as brave as she would like to be, yet talks a lot, and probably wants to see Jack just to ream him out about lying to her . blah blah blah. If Jack is the silent card, then it would make sense for the Empress and Emperor to be together. Non? That would be an HEA, but I don't expect that to happen.

“I never stopped liking you. Even when you were warding me away with the power of Catholicism.”
"Can’t help the way I was raised—anything supernatural is supposed to be either a miracle or satanic."
I rolled my eyes. “And you’re still trying to figure out which I am?”
"Non. I’m trying to find out if I’m still Catholic.” He grinned that heart-stopping grin."
