What's New This Week?

Two from the Library

I read them straight away after borrowing them from the library and can't say I enjoyed them. In fact, Midnight Sun was awful. Blood On Snow was better.
  1. Blood On Snow by Jo Nesbo - My Review
  2. Midnight Sun by Jo Nesbo - My Review

ABOUT Jo Nesbø

Jo Nesbo played football for Norway’s premier league team Molde, but his dream of playing professionally was dashed when he tore ligaments in his knee at the age of eighteen. After three years military service he attended business school and formed the band Di derre ('Them There'). Their second album topped the charts in Norway, but he continued working as a financial analyst, crunching numbers during the day and gigging at night. When commissioned by a publisher to write a memoir about life on the road with his band, he instead came up with the plot for his first Harry Hole crime novel, The Bat. He is regarded as one of the world’s leading crime writers, and his novels are published in over 50 languages. http://jonesbo.com/

Two from The Book Depository

I just got Susan Dennard's books in the mail today{Thursday}, so I haven't started them yet
  1. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
  2. Windwitch by Susan Dennard

ABOUT Susan Dennard

I’ve come a long way from small-town Georgia, where I suffered from mosquitoes, humidity, and a desperate desire to live in a castle. There were also crazy vegetarian parents involved. Needless to say, I read a lot in those days and often composed sad stories for my sister’s amusement. Eventually, I went off to university, got a Masters in marine biology and statistics, and thought I would devote my life to saving the world from overfishing…Until I met a handsome Frenchman, that is. A year later, when it came to pursuing my Ph.D. or joining aforementioned Frenchie in Europe, I chose the latter (duh). With no oceans nearby, I turned my attention to writing for publication. Three years later, my debut novel, Something Strange and Deadly was published by HarperCollins, which some people called a “masterpiece” (those people were my parents), and you can look for my upcoming book, Truthwitch, hitting stores on 1/5/16 from Tor. These days, I spend most of my time writing more novels or teaching aspiring authors. I also enjoy long walks on the beach—no joke! Tidal pools are always fun to marine biologists. I also enjoy long walks with my dogs (an Irish setter named Asimov and a terrier mutt named Princess Leia), karate, gaming, and—of course—reading. Science fiction, fantasy, literary—all genres are consumed with enthusiasm. http://susandennard.com

One super highly anticipated book from an incredibly talented writer

About Karen Marie Moning

Karen Marie Moning was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1964, the daughter of Anthony R. and Janet L. Moning. The family moved to a self-sustaining farm in Indiana when she was six years old, where she spent her youth raising cows, horses, tobacco, corn and other crops with her sisters and brother. An alum of the Immaculate Conception Academy, at seventeen she attended Purdue University where she completed a BA in Society & Law, with minors in Philosophy, Creative Writing, and Theatre, while working full time as a bartender and computer consultant. She intended to go to law school but after an internship with a firm of Criminal Attorneys, decided against it. For the next decade, she worked in insurance, where she wrote intercompany arbitrations and directed commercial litigation. At the age of thirty, she decided it was time to get serious and do what she’d always wanted to do: write fiction novels. Beyond the Highland Mist was published in 1999 and nominated for two RITA awards. She then published six more books in her award-winning HIGHLANDER series and received the RITA Award in 2001 for The Highlander’s Touch. In 2004, she began writing the #1 New York Times bestselling FEVER series. The books have been optioned twice for possible franchise development by Twentieth Century Fox and DreamWorks Studios, but the rights are currently held by Moning who has expressed a desire to one day see it as a television series. Her novels have been published in over thirty countries. She divides her time between Ohio and Florida and is working on two future projects for Random House Publishing.“I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” – Jorge Luis Borges
