The 13th Day

The Story of Fatima

This is in response to another blogger, 5thsister.  I just finished watching the movie! And I think it is worth seeing and I highly recommend it. I really liked it. The movie is in black and white, except the apparitions are in color :) There are subtitles in another language. The Blessed Virgin Mary was depicted nicely in the movie as she was beautiful.  I hear she is exquisite. I liked how nonchalantly Lucia asked Our Lady to give the other people a sign so they might believe them and she did. The Sun danced! And that was cool. After that, the people believed the children. There were over 70,000 individuals who saw the Miracle of the Sun that day. I read somewhere that God was in the Sun, and He wanted to draw near  His children, but that it made the crowds run for fear, they were terrified, cause they thought it was the end of the world. That wasn't said in the movie; just so you know.  However, they did show some of them running in fear.

At the end of the movie, they quoted Matthew 11:25 "I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.[NAB] Lucia of Fatima, the last remaining seer, said "It is her hope that Fatima will always be a light in the darkness and she said the word 'Fatima,' in another language, means 'Peace.' I think it is. More and more, people will come to realize this too. :)

Pray for priests and pray for Our Blessed Mother's intentions.

A prayer before the Rosary
Queen of the Holy Rosary, you have deigned to come to Fatima to reveal to the three shepherd children the treasures of grace hidden in the Rosary. Inspire my heart with a sincere love of this devotion, in order that by meditating on the Mysteries of our Redemption which are recalled in it, I may be enriched with its fruits and obtain peace for the world, the conversion of sinners and of Russia, and the favour which I ask of you in this Rosary.
(Here mention your request.)

I ask it for the greater glory of God, for your own honor, and for the good of souls, especially for my own. Amen.

  1. Thank you Jackie. Our church showed this movie on an evening I had to work so I wasn't able to see it. As a convert to Catholicism I am only somewhat familiar with the story. Thank you for sharing. I definitely want to explore this deeper. Wasn't it at Fatima where we got the additional rosary prayer: "Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of Hell, especially those in most need of thy mercy."? I have so much to learn and am enjoying the journey every step of the way!
