The Best Treat Of All

I am participating in Saturday Centus . A 100 word essay based on a prompt.

The kids came out after dark in the neighborhood and houses were expected to give them all sorts of sugary candy. With fewer houses decorated, apathy on everyone made it less appealing to go door to door .

As they hesitatingly walked towards a house that used to say no trespassing , just for tonight they thought it was ok.
"Trick or treat!" they shouted as the door opened..."
"hello , I've been expecting you , come on in "
"You have?" Jake replied.
"why sure, it's not everyday little kids dressed in costume, come knocking on my door." she said." Allow me to share with you the best Treat of all - Jesus Christ " .

She handed them each a pack of goodies , attached to it a card “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8)

  1. This one really took the prompt in a new direction! Interesting, and leaves me wanting to know more about writer intent and point of view.

    Thanks.

  2. The house that they thought most forbidding turned out to be the most welcoming. Interesting twist to the prompt. Kat

  12. I like the contrasting visuals in this story.

Part of me wonders how children would react to such a 'treat' and whether a 'trick' might follow with tp in the trees...

Part of me admires the woman for standing true to her values in the midst of such a contraversial holiday for many Christians.

    Thanks for making me think.
